“Let’s talk Fashion with Mr. Igwe”

Yves Saint Laurent once said, "Fashion fade, Style is eternal."

To me, fashion is not about brand names, the amount of money you spend on clothes, or how many clothes you have in your closet. To me, fashion is more than just putting fancy clothes on, or showing off a glamorous dress. Give me three pairs of pants, four different blazers, three shirts, two pairs of shoes, a pair of boots, and two winter coats, and I can rock them throughout a year without repeating an outfit. Fashion is about style. Fashion is an expression based on what you accept, fashion is a preference; fashion is beautiful.

"Your style is a way to say who you are without having to speak." - Rachel Zoe

I hear a bunch of people say Nigerians can dress their butt off..., which to a certain extent is very true. The reason for this is that throughout Nigeria's cultural history, our culture is never complete until you mention the topic of "fashion". Nigeria is a country of diverse tribes, and each tribe has a unique style of dressing, (because you can differentiate between the different tribes) OR (allowing you to differentiate between them). When the Europeans came, we might have embraced their culture of dressing, yet we still kept our unique sense of fashion, and we show it everywhere we go. I dress myself up according to the way I feel, fashion is the way I express myself. It is my culture and tradition. I love to be different and that is why I create my style, because it is a way to stand out.
