Artist Spotlight: INQ Styles.

What is your name?
My name is Isaac Quarshie and I am founder and CEO of INQ Styles. This stands for Interest and Quality Styles.

Tell us a bit about yourself/background
I am Nigerian currently residing in Queens, NY (QGTM), and I am also a senior at Baruch College pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications.

When did you start doing this (art/music/production/design etc.)?
I started on this journey of styling a while back but I recently started doing it seriously in February of this year.

How was the reaction/feedback from those around you (family/friends)?
The reaction from my friends and family was very warm and they supported me all the way.  They used to call me “Fashionista” or they would say “Here comes Mr. INQ” so when I started taking it more serious they would send me things to feature on my page or send me a picture of their outfits before stepping out of the house or while shopping for critique.

What inspires your art?
There are a lot of different things that inspire my art and why I do what I do. Going to a business school I see guys dressed in suits every single day and everyone has that one thing that adds flavor to their outfit or whether I’m on the train and I see a guy dressed in the linen blazer or in the shoes that I’ve been longing for, seeing how they put it together gives me inspiration to come up with new and creative ways to wear it or dress someone in it to stand out.  But the thing that inspires me the most is when someone comes to me, having never worn a suit in their life, and you put them in a finely tailored suit or give them ideas that would look great on them, and they come back to you after whatever event they were going to and tell you how they got so many compliments and how good they felt. That what inspires me to do what I do.

What is your favorite piece and why?
There are so many different styles and pieces that I hold dear, and each one has its own story and inspiration behind it but my favorite would be my Hickey Freeman charcoal gray suit, it is one of the first pieces I ever bought and it was tailored to perfection.

Who would you like to work with /who inspires you/ which artist do you  admire?
In the future I would like to work with @iamcharisteas from Instagram he is also a stylist and I like his vision and style. I would also like to work with @drdrummerd who is a great photographer and would help bring my vision to life.

Future Plans?
In the future I would like to be featured in some fashion shows to do a scene or two for the culture.  I would also like to get my following up on social media so that I can spread a little inspiration to a bigger crowd.  Down the line I would like to style a celebrity or public figure.

What advice do you have for anybody out there who wants to be an artist just like you?
The advice I have to anyone that wants to be an artist like me is that everyone starts somewhere so why not start today. Also don’t let anyone downplay your ability because everyone has his or her own vision on how something should be worn.
