Artist Spotlight: Adey
What is your name?
My name is Morenikeji Ajayi, but people call me ADE
Tell us a bit about yourself/background
I was born and raised in Nigeria; I am the second born in the family with 3 other siblings (2 sisters, and 1 brother). I came to New York when I was 16. I went to Kings and Queens College Greenspring Ibadan and for half of my high school days. I completed the rest of my high school studies at Bronxwood Preparatory Academy (BPA) when I immigrated to New York in 2012. I am currently at Borough of Manhattan Community College as Liberal Arts major with plans to enter the nursing program.
When did you start doing this (art/music/production/design etc.)?
I started modeling 2015
How was the reaction/feedback from those around you (family/friends)?
I got a lot of great feedback from my family, friends and close friends and they all have been so supportive and believed in me since day one. What actually surprised me the most was there were people I didn’t even know paid attention to what I was doing, came up to me and said something unique about my modeling. The feedback I received weather good or bad means a lot to me. It helps me get stronger through the process. It makes me better everyday, and also improves my confidence at each shoot I do. Lastly it reminds me of the type of person I am, and the type of person I aspire to be in the future.
What inspires your art?
At this moment, I inspire myself when it comes to my art; I get so involved in photo shoots that I want to take a better picture than the last shoot that I did.
What is your favorite piece and why?
Unfortunately, I don’t have a favorite piece at the moment. I believe one of these days I will have that image.
Who would you like to work with /who inspires you/ which artist do you admire?
I will love to work with big companies like Adidas, Zara, Forever21, HM, Nike, Aldo, Sephora and Victoria Secret, and much more. My ultimate dream is to be an household name with these companies.
First of all, I will finish what I’m doing in school, then I can have full time to focus on modeling more. My mind is currently focused on both right now, and I want to devote my full attention to modeling.
What advice do you have for anybody out there who wants to be an artist like you?
I will advise people that wants to become a model or are in the process already to always believe in yourself, even if no one else believes in you. Do not give up so easily because you never know what the future holds. So believe and always stay focus.
